If you want to feel old, it’s the 19th anniversary of Alexander Wang’s eponymous label, which he celebrated with a runway show last night. Way back in the day, his fashion week parties were a HOT TICKET, but his career has slid in recent years, certainly in part because he’s been on the receiving end of both numerous sexual assault allegations, and accusations of using sweatshop labor, both of which have since been resolved (in ways that were opaque to those of us not directly involved), but also (I think) because his work felt simply….of a time. As recently as 2022, the New York Times wrote that he “has little leverage left,” but Vogue just ran a large profile of him, so….I suppose we’ll see. He did not get the kind of turnout he used to see last night, certainly.
