Zendaya is not known for drama, other than that which people seem to want to project upon her. Based on the trailer, The Drama has a plot that wants to be shrouded in a little secrecy; spoilers are easy to find on Reddit if you want them, but are NOT useful in a world of theme dressing. So what could Law Roach play with here? I think he cheekily mined the past for the one media drama that did befall his client: the time in 2015 when she wore this Vivienne Westwood gown with dreadlocks to the Oscars, and Giuliana Rancic said they made her look like she smelled of “patchouli or weed.” Zendaya issued a polite but stern rebuke, and Giuliana correctly had to apologize multiple times. Yes, this movie is about an engaged couple trying to get to the altar, and yes, this was originally a wedding dress and Zendaya says it came down to that and the “something old, something new” tradition, but there is NO way a duo as thorough as this one didn’t select this particular white dress WITHOUT a mischievous eye toward that drama connection, right?
