We have a motherf'ing opera-off! Or... not really, but two celebrities DID help open up the season, one in NYC, and one in L.A. Dua Lipa attended the premiere of the Metropolitan Opera's Lincoln in the Bardo last night, in a Ferragamo that is clearly related to the gold paillettes in which Sarah Paulson draped herself on Saturday. And this one is just as much of a strange bag. Literally, it is a bag, that I find strange. So low, and pinchy, and such an optimistic little string that's bound to chafe, and then it just kind of vomits out a train. Perhaps, apropos of the subject matter, she wanted to wear something that deserved to live out its days in purgatory.
Across the country, Jennifer Lopez was NOT at the Academy Gala. It feels as if she was almost the only A-lister who was in Los Angeles and yet not present, even though surely that is not true. But Jennifer decided to lend her star power to an event that had rather less: the L.A. Opera's opening night of Carmen.

She certainly chose her coat with great intention. Per her stylist, it's her own – and is credited as being D&G – and so are the jewels. That necklace IS fantastic. Frankly, this entire thing feels like a thematic nod to the Sevilla-set opera, and also an impressive flex that she could pull this out of her closet (even if she did have styling advice). She almost looks like she wants to burst into song. DO IT, J.LO. Maybe, undaunted by Kiss of the Spiderwoman, she will put out a version of Carmen next. And if she can't train herself to sing opera... maybe it will be DANCE CARMEN. The horror. Oh, PLEASE, let's do this.
