We’ve looked at two other Walter van Beirendonck shows — he’s an avant garde Belgian designer with, shall we say, a sense of whimsy — and they never disappoint. Like, that numbingly self-serious Vuitton show happened, and then we got“Banana Wink Boom!” from van Beirendonck, based in the idea of “exquisite monsters” and so named because those words “are saying nothing — and everything.” AFP reports that instead of a soundtrack, each outfit had a tiny speaker playing a different song, and then he let fly with this:

“I don’t want to do a big Far West movie,” he told AFP backstage, in a dig at Louis Vuitton’s ultra-expensive, cowboy-themed show the night before. “I feel it’s really sometimes too much what they are doing. There’s so much money being spent, they should spend it on better things,” he said with a laugh.

Is a Ken wig a better thing? I mean, it’s better for MY soul, in the sense that I chortled at length, so maybe that’s enough.
