I’m sad that this is A Year Without Viola in an Acting Race. Last year, at the Golden Globes, she wore this gem of a custom gown by Cameroonian designer Claude Kameni; her Lavie by CK label is all bespoke work, and she and Viola’s stylist collaborated on this in preparation for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. It’s such a shame the Globes were confined to Zoom boxes, because this deserved full reverence on a red carpet. This deserved four photos in a slideshow. And we wistfully noted that perhaps one day we’d get to see them work together on something else spectacular that could glide down a red carpet. I guess we’ll have to wait a bit longer. Dear 2022: I don’t care for A Year Without Viola, so PLEASE pony up the goods.
