Joy may suffer from not being the first movie named Joy that comes up when you Google it. That honor goes to the 2015 Jennifer Lawrence joint about the inventor of Huggable Hangers; this one is about Jean Purdy, the scientist who helped pioneer IVF, and is supposed to be a vastly superior project AND the only one of the two that stars Fug Nation’s favorite hot vicar. Unfortunately, James Norton continues to have a very strange relationship with pants. He looks like he thrifted a Colonel Mustard costume for a full-costume Clue screening. Actually, both of them here are having sizing issues — James is swimming in fabric, and Thomasin McKenzie is wearing a stunning archival Lanvin from its 2020 Resort collection that is sabotaged by not having been properly fitted at the bodice. Sitting low and loose like that makes the accessories look even more undercooked. The whole thing is like a save that was about to be spectacular, until it turned into an own goal.
