The U.S. Open being played in a closer time zone means I can actually veg out in front of a LOT of the early round matches, and there have been some great ones. I saw three five-setters that ended in tiebreaks on the first day alone, and Sloane Stephens vs. Madison Keys was a highlight, too, as was Bianca Andreescu’s round one win. Outfit-wise, Stephens/Keys was also a highlight, but can we talk about the lowlight? Ralph Lauren’s outfits for the ball boys/girls are once again terrible. I am so ready for the tennis tournaments and the Olympics to ditch him — imagine what someone else could do with this platform! — but it feels like it’ll never happen.
