Sadly we don’t have any pics from it, but the other day, Florence Pugh and East of Eden writer/showrunner Zoe Kazan (her grandfather directed the original movie) popped by the Library of Congress to publicize the series. Florence wore big honking Lady Gaga platform shoes with an extremely cute retro-flavored Alessandra Rich dress. For an event at The British Library, she switched back to Rodarte, My first clue was the gigantic gold belt that says RODARTE but looks like a very artistic ransom note. The blouse is so aggressive and not my style — I guess she’s really feeling a high-necked Rodarte demi-poncho aesthetic right now? — but the narrow pleats in those shoulder bunches DO kind of look like the pages of a book, when you open it up and flip through it fast with your thumb. Let’s assume that was the idea. Otherwise, Zoe looks lovely but needs cuter shoes, Mike Faist is adorable and may have the perfect Period Piece Aura for this, and Christopher Abbott either needed to fix his fly or has a white tag on his zipper that merely makes it LOOK like he needs to fix his fly. Either way, it’s sub-optimal that his crotch is making an attention grab.
