This event with Isa Briones, sponsored by SAG, is called, “Acting Class with Isa Briones at The Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists.” I have to think any young — or middle-aged, or old — actor, no matter how talented, would read that about themselves and be like, “I am doing WHAT NOW at the MERYL FREAKING STREEP Center?????” It would be like me talking about writing books at the (fictional)(FOR NOW) Danielle Steel Institute For Authors; yes, I’ve co-written a couple, but I’d spend the whole time wondering if my invitation was an accident and they all mistakenly thought I was Heather Cox Richardson. Which actually probably would end up being the case.
Anyway, Isa is a great actress, performing her greatest role yet: that of a starlet in 2004 who couldn’t decide between a dress, and jeans with pointy-toed heels, and decided, WHY CHOOSE. She is a woman in 2004 — and 2026 — and so she shall HAVE IT ALL. Meryl Streep’s own children probably did this. Her co-star Anne Hathaway absolutely did. Maybe Isa is paying homage to what is probably Meryl’s most successful film. Maybe she’s PLAYING 2004 Anne Hathaway. Maybe it’s LAYERED.
