Stella’s message has increasingly been one of environmentalism, to the point that she had people in animal costumes passing out saplings to attendees, asking them to plant the trees to help offset the show’s carbon footprint. I’m sure it’s not that simple, but she does also do yeoman’s work in standing up for animals with her shows; she’s been free of their trappings — no leather, no feathers, no fur — since 2001. So I might not always like her aesthetic, but I have to hand it to her for taking up the mantle of this cause long before it was popular to do it — and for her savvy in understanding that sending plush animals down the runway is a great way to get people talking about it.
I didn’t really have any styling suggestions for this; Stella seems to turn up, ready-to-wear-wise, mostly on her pals, if anyone. Her best work is also her custom formalwear. But it’s still interesting to look at; I just didn’t want you to think my captions got eaten. They did not. THIS TIME.
