I am avoiding the reviews for this movie, but Twitter gives me the sense that people found it to be bland, unimaginative fan service. Is that a bummer? Maybe, but it’s not like I expected this trilogy to break any new ground — right from the jump, it was all homages to the original three, saved by its cast. We shall see. Honestly, the whole trilogy feels like it wasn’t properly plotted from the jump, beyond knowing that the movies were Han’s, Luke’s, and then Leia’s; I have a lot of admiration for the fact that Carrie Fisher’s death left them scrambling on that front. Pushing it probably wasn’t an option — you run into actor conflicts, among other things — so I am going in tomorrow expecting a movie that’s fun and fine, and a shadow of what we could’ve gotten if our Leia still walked among us.
