I enjoy that Wimbledon has created a version of Henman Hill in New York, where people can gather outside to watch the matches. Rita Ora is headlining a concert there tonight — tickets were by lottery and it’s closed — which is likely why she’s gallivanting around the city so much this week. I hope some Fug Nationals got tickets and can report back, and also, I hope Saturday’s women’s final is good. Iga Swiatek looks DIALED IN, but it’d be a thrill if Amanda Anisimova gave her a good fight. We’ve had a different American in all three finals of the year — Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, Anisimova — and all of them beat Aryna Sabalenka at some point (two in the final, and Amanda in the semi on Thursday). We had a fourth different American, Jessica Pegula, in the US Open 2024 final but Aryna beat her. All of which is to say, Sabalenka is really good, and American tennis is looking strong. Now if only we could get a British woman to win at Wimbledon; no offense to Virginia Wade, but it’s time for that streak to end.
