She posted a photo on Instagram that makes the makeup look a bit better; to me, in this photo, that lip is too coral for the gown.

Overall, though… I have to tell you, I didn’t think I liked this. That neckline is a LOT of look, as Tim Gunn would say, and I was not sure Kate Bosworth was a woman who could carry that much without drowning in it. But she’s proving me wrong. It’s REALLY diva, in a way I find both refreshing and pleasant on her. It isn’t trying to be directional, or complicated, or any other term that drips with the sweat of a design house trying to be trendy; instead, it’s aiming squarely at old-style glam. And the top-heavy aesthetic balances her out nicely. I wish it were a less muddy shade of lilac, but take it just because I’m so surprised to find that I like it on her. It’s nice to have been doing this for almost 12 years now and still be capable of changing my own mind.
