The New Look is Apple TV+’s new series, which Google describes thusly: “The story of how fashion icon Christian Dior and his contemporaries, including Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain and Cristóbal Balenciaga, navigate the horrors of World War II and launch modern fashion.” Maisie plays Dior’s sister Catherine, who was a legit member of the French Resistance and a true hero. (Juliette Binoche plays Chanel.) I think it’s very clever that they’re dressing her in what looks like period clothing with a modern twist. The classic New Look up there, rendered in leather, feels particularly right to me.

Frankly, I think it’s mostly let down by the black step-and-repeat, because the part of her that we can see looks intriguing. Maybe I’ll just assume the best for the rest.
