Lucy Boynton is promoting The Greatest Hits, a movie about a woman who discovers certain songs allow her to time travel, reliving events and relationships of her past. I don’t know what those songs are, but I hope one of them is the German calypso cover of P.I.M.P., because then it might offer a third theory for Anatomy of a Fall: that the song itself pushed Sandra Huller’s husband off the balcony because it has magical powers.
Anyway, Lucy’s polka-dot ensemble is thoroughly charming, and kooky in a less aggressively eccentric way than what turned out to be a Simone Rocha for Gaultier dress. That one wasn’t even bad on her, but this is slicker and more polished. I feel like this is the vibe Zooey Deschanel often wants to hit: retro quirky. Except this might be outplaying Zooey at her own game.
Lucy also did pretty well at another event:
The lace hem and the sheer socks and Mary Janes are not my thing, but it’s to Lucy’s credit that she’s apparently decided they are HER thing and then found a way to wrap it in luxe purple fabric and sell it. She’s given it all a context, a whole package, that I can comprehend — kind of like a thesis statement that I don’t have to agree with to appreciate. Good on her.
