This was exciting! (I think I started our post about the pairs programs that way as well, but exciting is exciting.) The past week was a difficult one — both on a national level, and for me personally — and the men’s long programs were a balm. For a few hours, it was warming to see the successful culmination of years of hard work and dedication for so many people — and not just the medal winners. Nathan Chen followed up his DISASTROUS short program (which I actually didn’t see, due to a DVR snafu, and….it seems that was for the best) with a stunning comeback in the long (and a new costume); Adam Rippon made me cry. The Japanese men were so excited for each other. Javier Fernandez landed Spain its first ever skating medal, and also was VERY HANDSOME. It was rather satisfying all around.
