I feel like the last few Kate O’Flynn outings have featured outfits that she and her stylists considered for the Emmys and ultimately rejected for a variety of reasons — but I would have argued in favor of this one. Yes, it’s (arguably, once again) a little…basic? I might have done a different shoe. Someone could make the case that it’s insufficiently memorable. But I would have pushed back that it’s VERY pretty, she looks great in it, and no one is going to look back at this and think, “ugh, that wasn’t the time to reinvent the wheel.” (Her Emmys dress, as a reminder, was great from the neck up — which IS the part that lives in photos, to be fair.) Luckily, I feel confident she’s going to get plenty of cracks at that red carpet to try all manner of things.
