They’re in London in aid of their film The Liberation, which Google tells me is about “Rita, a mother escaping the weight of a harrowing past, [who] finds solace in a secluded all-women’s cult, but when her daughters arrive, she must choose between the freedom she’s found and the life she left behind.” That “harrowing past” is literally the Holocaust, so, you know…this one doesn’t seem particularly light and fluffy. (It’s also based on a true story!) Don’t worry, Lily James is not playing Carrie Coon’s daughter; Lily James is the cult leader, a role that was originally cast with Vicky Krieps. (Coons’s role was originally meant to be Naomi Watts.) This feels like possibly the only time that Lily James and Vicky Krieps were considered for the same role.

ANYWAY. I can only assume that amid all their work together, Lily James and Carrie Coon shared stories about working with Julian Fellowes. If only we could have a crossover event with them on The Gilded Age but Lily James’s Downton character would have to travel back in time. I guess it’s possible — there’s been an alarm clock subplot on The Gilded Age. That’s surely just a few small steps from a time machine.
