Julianne Moore Went Drab for The Debut

Julianne here is in Rome for The Debut, a Jesse Eisenberg joint wherein she plays a housewife auditioning for a musical called Nosy Neighbors directed by Paul Giamatti. (Sadly not playing himself.) And I am totally on board here. Not only is the cast full of singing and theatre folks – Halle Bailey, Bernadette Peters, Craig Bierko, Christpher Fitzgerald, Bonnie Milligan, Danny Burstein – but I read the track list for Nosy Neighbors and laughed out loud when I got to "Where's My Shoe?" sung by Woman With Shoes, and "Another Bill (Ugh!)" by a councilwoman. It sounds potentially very entertaining, and not at all dreary. So I can't figure out the aesthetic choices here. In addition to promoting this, she also won a career achievement award, and accepted it in... whatever that is. I guess... a jacket, and a skirt? It seems a bit joyless for a big night in Rome where you are getting a crystal tchotchke for your bookshelf. She looks cold, and zoned out, like she's still processing whether or not she liked Digger.

... I mean, same thing, different font, really.
