Nicolas Winding Refn is NOT my jam, so it was unlikely I would see Her Private Hell anyway, but this movie sounds hellish indeed. Variety’s description is that Sophie Thatcher plays “a tortured movie star who must confront her daddy issues when her best friend marries her father. At the same time, a mysterious presence, known only as The Leather Man, is going on a killing spree of young women who shout “Daddy!” before being ripped open. [Charles] Melton plays an Army private whose own daughter goes missing and embarks to find vengeance and kill the Leather Man.” Wikipedia went with, “As a strange mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis and unleashes an elusive deadly presence, a troubled young woman sets out in search of her father. In this quest, her fate crosses with that of an American GI engaged in a desperate journey to snatch his daughter from Hell.” The Hollywood Reporter called it “agonizingly self-indulgent” and wisely ducks trying to explain what it’s about in any real way. Bummer, because I like all these people; Sophie Thatcher is SUPER talented and after Yellowjackets is over I’d like to see her in movies I can actually watch without covering my face. At least for Kristine, we always have The Bucccaneers.
