ABC chief Paul Lee got the boot recently, and two of my TV loves were cited as reasons: Galavant, and Agent Carter, short-run shows with critical acclaim but tiny — albeit loyal — audiences, which he kept alive against perhaps all business sense. This is a strong indicator that ABC will cut bait on these two gems, and that’s a shame. For a hot second, it felt like ABC cared more about quality and experimentation and cleverness than the bottom line, but really, who in Hollywood ACTUALLY feels that way? So we’ll enjoy this while we can, and hope against all hope that the new chief is allowed to keep plugging holes in its schedule with these eight-week vacations. And PROMOTE THEM NEXT TIME. Don’t just give up after the first week of overnights.
