The month of September has gone so quickly that I can barely believe it. Enjoy its last weekend. If you’re in the path of Hurricane Helene, stay safe and dry.

We have MUCH content at Drinks With Broads this week. I recapped the most recent chunk of Emily in Paris (I hate Gabriel). Heather recapped the most recent episode of Only Murders in the Building (my favorite episode of the season to date)! We brought a new edition of Enter Through the Gift Shop, this time at the Atomic Museum in Vegas, and looked at several fresh fall TV shows. We watched the (bad) new Ellen DeGeneres special and checked up on some of America’s biggest scammers!

We also had a fun chat about what everyone is currently reading.

I’m sure you saw that Dame Maggie Smith has died. 89 years is a good run, and  yet! I felt a terrible pang when I read the news. As my friend Grant said, he will never hear the word “weekend” without thinking of her. She had a tremendous and beautifully varied career — she is, for example, great in A Room With a View — and then found entirely new audiences with both the Harry Potter films (in which she is absolutely perfectly cast), and, of course Downton Abbey, in which she is simply sublime. It is certainly not an exaggeration to say that she will live on in our memories. The New York Times rounds up ten of her greatest performances. How many have you seen? [gifted link]

A GREAT piece at Lainey’s Substack, the Squawk: What They Did In The 90s: The Fashion Ecosystem and the decade it ascended into Pop Culture

This interview with Law Roach at Vanity Fair is a really interesting read.

Wow! At Architectural Digest: Fashion Icon Christian Siriano Transforms a Dilapidated Richmond, Virginia, Mansion Into a Family Sanctuary.

Oh my gosh, this bow-adored stoneware — cups and plates and bowls — is SO cute. [affiliate link to Anthro]

Also cute? These Halloween-y black-cat glasses! (I’m excited to write my Halloween shopping post soon.) [affiliate link to Anthro]

Speaking of fall, the Everygirl goes deep here: Trader Joe’s Fall Items Are Back! Here’s What to Add to Your Cart This Season. TJ’s has LOST THEIR MIND for pumpkin. (It’s fun.)

Quasi-related, at Eater: We’ve Reached Peak Frozen Waffle. Here Are the Best. To be frank: some of these seem NUTS to me.

Relevant to my interests, at T&C: The Murdoch Family Trial Proves the Superrich Have Trust Issues.

Texas Monthly asks, Can Neiman Marcus Remain True to Dallas if It’s Run From New York?

Oh no, do I need this sweater?  (J.Crew’s new fall stuff is honestly really good.) [J.Crew, affiliate link]

Hoda is retiring?!?! SAY IT AIN’T SO. (Be happy and get some sleep, Hoda.) (Hoda is probably the nicest and warmest celeb I’ve ever spoken to at Fashion Week. I just love her.) [Lainey]

As of my writing this, the White Sox are on a winning streak and I told my husband it would be very White Sox-y of them if they DIDN’T now set the record for the most losses in baseball history. At NY Mag: The Beauty of the White Sox’s Historically Abysmal Season.

Finally, it’s nice to have good news to share: As you know, we’ve been raising funds for state legislature races in key swing states through The States Project. And we hit our initial goal of $10,000 last week! A massive shoutout to everyone who contributed— your generosity truly means the world. State legislatures play a crucial role in our democracy and can drive meaningful change, and the election is in less than six weeks (!!). (And I think it’s might be a squeaker, so consider this your reminder call your doc to make sure you’ve got some Xanax in the house if that’s how you roll.) Following the guidance of the folks at The States Project, we’ve decided to raise our donation goal to $20,000 just to keep the momentum going, but there’s absolutely no pressure; anything we raise from here on out is just the icing on the cake. We’re absolutely thrilled and incredibly grateful to all of you who have supported this good cause! Thank you!

On that topic: Make sure your voter registration is up to date and make sure you’ve made a plan to vote. (I’m doing mail-in this year and dropping my ballot off in the drop-box at my local park. I find it very satisfying to get the text that my vote has been counted.)
