Nightbitch is scampering its way through the festival circuit, and Amy Adams is clad in black — perhaps thematically, as if morphing into a labrador and slipping into the inky abyss. Helpfully, Dior clarified that this is a skirt and jacket (I wasn’t sure if it might be pants, but no), and it’s in keeping with all the dark velvet we’ve seen in the last few months. There are details on it you really have to squint to see, which was also the case on the Pre-Fall 2024 runway (slide 61), a collection that W says was inspired by what it called the “androgynous style” of Marlene Dietrich. And maybe in that context it would have worked, but on its own here, I think it seems a little flat and underwhelming, and ultimately boring. Her HEAD looks fantastic, at least? This is just one of those where I am struggling to point to something specifically overtly wrong; it just doesn’t capture my fancy.
