Pierpaolo Piccioli won an award for Designer of the Year for his work at Valentino, an honor the brand must have shelled out a TON for either in money or product or both. Think back upon how much Valentino pink — sorry, PP Pink — you saw in the past 12 months alone, and how readily identifiable it became. Is that good designing or simply good marketing, and which of those is truly being rewarded? HMMM. INSERT MY RAISED BROW. Interestingly, PP didn’t have Florence wear his once (and future?) signature shade. Red has a link of its own to the brand, as RED Valentino is its diffusion line, but maybe this will also be a harbinger of his shift to another part of the rainbow. Or, it’ll be how Florence nabs a Diet Coke campaign. Both! While we wait, here’s more of Florence and the rest of the Fashion Awards attendees.
