And so the juggernaut begins. Henry Golding and Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh must be off gargling with honey and preserving their voices and getting facials, and such, to be ready for the global sweep, which means Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and Nico Santos are doing most of the early work together, and then Gemma Chan (Astrid) is apparently going it alone in a few other cities, like Boston and Philly. The trio here is in Miami, and she’s in a dress that photographs like it’s shiny purple bubble wrap, and Ken looks like he just popped over from buying bread at Whole Foods.

This looks like Awkwafina got zipped into something potentially VERY sweaty, and rather unflattering. I appreciate that she and Nico changed clothes with the venue. Ken is probably like, “You guys, I left an entire cart’s worth of Amy’s frozen meals sitting in the produce section.”

I just think that a movie with “Crazy Rich” in the title should be giving its actors something that doesn’t look like Studio 54 for Sears.

This is better:

First, please let me clarify again — there was confusion about this in a previous post — that when ads appear over images in these long-form posts, they are not our ads and not our doing. They are Getty Images’s ads, and they are there as a trade-off for allowing sites to embed these images for free. You can close them by clicking on the X in the top right corner of the ad. Is it ideal? No, but it’s fair, especially if the alternative for us is showing you none of these.

With that said: I like that Fendi outfit the best out of anything Awkwafina has worn so far, here or on Ocean’s Eight’s tour. So, nicely done there; unfortunately she wore it first, so hopefully the ensuing downward trend will pick up again.

Let’s move onto Gemma Chan, who has a HUGE year coming up, with roles in this and Captain Marvel, and Mary, Queen of Scots.

The shirt is by Oscar de la Renta, and while it’s rather too Fancy Poncho for my personal liking, she does look pretty and carries it well. This next blue one, though, is by Prabal Gurung, and I like it better than most of what he’s shown lately. I’m also leaving her caption here in full, because I like that she is thoughtful about her Instagram presence:

That image, right there, is total “Easy, Breezy, CoverGirl” stuff. I wish I felt an ounce of how confident this looks.

That probably looked fantastic on the runway, and in a breeze, because of what it does to the ruffle. But in a practical sense, I don’t know if I would want to feel like I was flapping all night.

But those culottes are ewlottes.
