When I compiled this post last week for the Golden Globes, I was reminded that that we’d hadn’t run a Best/Worst poll for that awards show in 2018 (because that was the year folks wore all black in recognition of Time’s Up). Now that the time has come to choose the Best of the Best of the SAGs, it comes to my attention that we didn’t do a Best Dressed poll for this particular red carpet in 2012, 2018, or 2019! This raises the question: What is wrong with me the week after the SAGs?!?!? (Generally, during non-global pandemic times, we have oodles of content that week, so I suspect the real answer is: I just didn’t feel like writing this post because it’s a lot of work. I’ll take this up with me when I give me my performance review.) So! Thanks to what I suspect is my own laziness, in choosing the Best of the Best of the last decade of the SAGs, you once again have narrowed down field from which to choose. To the folks who wore something amazing in those interim years…you can consider yourself the winner of this in your heart. (To clarify: The folks here are the winners of the Best Dressed of the SAGs poll for the year in question; I am not just picking my personal favorite from each year.)
The real question for me is, when we get to the end of awards season and I write a Best of the Best of the Best post…how many Lupitas will be in contention? Because she won this one two years in a row, and she’s the recently crowned Best of the Best of the Golden Globes! Can she take this one, too? I think it’s going to be close; there are at least four all-time memorable looks in here. And, interestingly, I think this is a more unusual slate of looks than we got at the Globes. Do people take bigger fashion risks at the SAGs?
