Before the Met, much was made of a Tom Ford quote — in Amy Odell’s Anna Wintour biography, Anna, which is out today and which, SPOILER, we are giving away on Thursday — where he decries the use of theme and specifically drags the time Katy Perry dressed up as a chandelier and a hamburger (which were to the gala and post-party, respectively, during the “Camp” year). He repeated that huffy anti-theme thing this year when Vanessa Hudgens asked what his inspirations were, which I find amusing given that apparently his dress for Julianne Moore is based on something Jackie Kennedy wore. Which, sure, that’s not the theme, but he’s obviously not above homage, and for “Gilded Glamour” that works just as well. Climb off your high horse, Tom, it’s stuffy up there. It also cracks me up that Tom can talk that kind of shit about Anna’s pet event and she doesn’t exact cold revenge. I guess he’s untouchable.
