Happy weekend! Hope you all have fun plans waiting for you this weekend — stay cool, if you can. If you’re being affected by these terrible Canadian wildfires, I’m thinking of you. It’s awful when the air quality is this bad. (If you don’t have an air purifier yet, we kept one in our bedroom during LA’s terrible fires in 2024 and it did really help; it’s not a fancy one, it was some random one I got on Amazon during the pandemic. If there aren’t any available at the moment near you, for whatever reason, a wet towel under the door and at your window sills does help.) This is also a helpful piece about how to protect yourself when the AQ is bad.) Additionally, obviously, try not to get explosive diarrhea out there!
Lots to read at DWB this week. On Tuesday, we talked about adult Play-Doh and dinosaur auctions (and Love Island), dove into the menswear of my 1980 Sears summer catalog (it’s wild) and Heather imagines the pitch meeting for that J.Lo/Brett Goldstein rom-com. (I love how many of your grandpas wore those jumpsuits.)
Here at GFY, I rounded up clothes for when it’s just too $%&#ing hot, and cute stuff for picnics. We also covered the ESPYs and the All-Star Game — among the usual shenanigans.
At The Ringer: VAR Is My Mortal Enemy and Should Be Yours, Too. I’m cheering for Spain this weekend now that all my other teams are out. It’s been a great World Cup, though. It’s been fun to see people enjoying themselves, and it’s been good to be reminded that most Americans are good hosts.
