The 1993 Tony Awards actually happened on this very day, thirty years ago. The host? Liza! The big winners were Angels in America and Kiss of the Spider Woman, both very deserving, and Chita Rivera, Madeline Kahn, Andrea Martin and Debra Monk all took home acting awards — a more glorious foursome I cannot imagine. As usual, we don’t have red carpet photos the likes of which we would get today (and will ideally get this Sunday, when this year’s Tonys are happening), but these snaps are, as I said in the headline, a hoot and well worth your time. There IS a sparkly fishnet top!
