Maika Monroe here is starring in Victorian Psycho, a movie I will never see but whose title does at least make me laugh. It sounds like a reality show. We have American Idol, and we have Victorian Psycho, in which twelve contestants compete to be the most deranged old-timey supernatural being. Challenges include most creative use of a ventriloquist's dummy, trapping someone in the family mausoleum, and an obstacle course involving creaky floorboards, lightning strikes, and a variety of dangerous candelabra. The winner gets to scare their nemesis to death (I mean, if it's contemporaneous; if it's present-day, they probably just win $250,000 from Sephora and a contract with Kreepy Halloween).
I am not really sure why Maika would voluntarily wear this, but she loves black and she loves sheers, so I guess it's as on-brand as anything else. It seems as though it's snagged and ripped in several spots already, though. I also think she increasingly looks like a candidate to play Gwen Stefani in a No Doubt movie. Maybe that's episode three of Victorian Psycho, as airing on Peacock: Perform a fright as an ancestor of a famous celebrity, as if they are crawling out of the grave. "Don't speak," she will hiss, dragging herself across the lawn to the tune of a slow, emo version of the verse beginning, "Our memoriessssss, well, they can be inviting. But some are altogether mighty friiiiiightening..." Listen, it's not THAT much dumber than some of what's already on the air. The Mob? Please.
