Selena often wears pink to these Rare Beauty events, almost like she’s dressing up as one of their lip oils. This is a cocktail party in honor of her Impact Fund — 1% of Rare Beauty sales goes toward mental health initiatives, which… does that seem low, or do I just have no perspective on what an appropriate percentage should be? — and comes at at time when there have been some allegations of mismanagement and/or lack of transparency when it comes to distribution of funds, and when she caused a stir by commenting that she doesn’t use “real models” for their campaigns. I know what she meant, but one of the models in question seemed sort of surprised to learn this about herself. Anyway, in the face of all that: The boob darts are aggressive and the wrap seems potentially annoying to carry, and the whole thing being dyed to match with her shoes is serving bridesmaid. However, I love that hue on her, and mostly she looks happy and confident and ideally like a person who is going to make sure they have donated exactly the amounts they should have to the various orgs that depend on them. On balance, I think it ends up in the plus column? Maybe not fab, but not outright fug either.
However:
First, the closer you get to the dress, the less you want to look at it — that seam is a Monet, in Cher Horowitz parlance — and second, what is going on with makeup right now? Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande just had faces slathered in heavy nonsense, and now Selena is doing the brown lipliner with an underwhelming neutral fill, neither of them tones that really do her favors OR advertise themselves very nicely. At a party for a cosmetics company, you’d think they’d make SURE to stick this landing.
