Taraji P. Henson is Tyler Perry’s latest revisited property, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third movie in the series that apparently dares to ask why a person got married. And it IS a good question, because I read the synopsis of the first movie — in which Jill Scott gets fat-shamed and her “happy ending” is losing weight — and THEN I read the synopsis of Why Did I Get Married, Too? and WHOA. One character tries to protect her book royalties from her husband in their divorce, after which he, ahem, “takes their son’s baby photos and taunts her about her perceived lack of emotions, even about their divorce and their son’s death, and then assaults her, douses her in vodka, and burns the photos.” And THEN he steals her book money! Another character gets dumped by her man because she’s secretly been taking her ex to chemotherapy, and a third is on the verge after realizing her husband has a secret second phone.
Now, bear in mind this is a Wikipedia synopsis, but after ALL THAT, there is this: “The women go to Patricia’s house to comfort her; they soon realize that they are ruining their marriages and lives with their constant selfishness, lies, dishonesty and inconsideration.” Um, what? And then later Patricia tells the women to fix their marriages. THE WOMEN. You can tell his was written by a dude, my GOD. Why DID any of these people get married, or married too, or married again? They are MISERABLE. FREE THE WOMEN.
No wonder Taraji seems to be dressed like the psychic pain of that very question. But she also still looks great. The world is a rich tapestry; a person CAN still look bangin’ while swaddled in the embodiment of a tangled emotional web. But is it the dress, or her?
