This was for the opening night of Plaza Suite, which SJP is doing with Matthew Broderick, and it’s VERY appropriate for the event; this gown is extremely ’60s retro, and the Neil Simon play opened in 1968 (and has been staged very intentionally in that time period this go ’round, per the New York Times, which gave SJP good notices but did not like Broderick’s performance, or the revival as a whole). This feels contemporaneous with that, and honestly, I love it on her. It’s very quirky — it could believably be from Jane Sterling’s wardrobe onĀ Mad Men — but she carries it very well. Let’s take a closer look.
