I don’t know about you, but I absolutely needed the whimsy of Juliette Binoche wearing Sister Bertrille’s magical cornette as a top. (It is Schiaparelli, and boy does it lose something without the metallic accoutrement.) Parenthetically, can we discuss The Flying Nun? First, it’s mind-blowing that there was a real three-season sitcom about a nun whose headpiece was so big, she could fly if the wind caught her correctly. Second, I went to the Wikipedia page, and learned that some of the episodes were all about… her explaining the physics of why she could fly in it but maybe someone else couldn’t, which is not what I would have expected. Another plot point hinged on the exciting twist of inner ear infections. Apparently it was not Sally Field’s favorite job, and she only took it because her stepfather convinced her she might never work again if she didn’t. He probably wasn’t right about that, but we’ll never know. This show only had three seasons, but a whopping 83 episodes. I’ve never seen one, but Wikipedia was actually pretty kind to it, and I gather by season three the flying part was somewhat shoehorned into things. Talk about being trapped by your premise, I guess. Couldn’t she have been a metaphorically flying nun?
