This event, the American Black Film Festival Honors, celebrated Cynthia Erivo as a rising star, feted Lou Gossett Jr. for being Lou Gossett Jr., gave Lena Waithe an “Industry Renaissance” award, and had Leonardo DiCaprio show up to hand Jamie Foxx the Excellence in the Arts Award. Which to me sounds weirdly non-specific? I guess it’s because he’s musical, also, and he does dramatic acting and comedy…. okay, I talked myself into it, we can proceed. There are some GREAT suits in here, but the real star of this show is obviously the fact that Nafessa Williams’s gown makes the phrase “Fug Madness cutoff” into wordplay.
