There have been, now, seven entries in the Mission: Impossible franchise, all of them ending in success. So really, it’s Mission: Highly Feasible, or Mission: Foregone Conclusion. This one MIGHT have a prayer of being MORE impossible given that there’s a Part Two coming next summer, so presumably something goes wrong. Early buzz is that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is pretty solid. M:I-DR1 has been in the can and waiting to go for a while now, having been developed in 2019 and begun filming in 2020 just before Covid, and if I’m not mistaken it’s the one where we were meant to think Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell might have struck up a romance — though he seems to have given up on that rumor, as she met her now-fiancĂ© in 2022. Anyhoo, the premiere was in a great setting, and I welcome a period of summer blockbusters, and hope it will not be cut short by a SAG strike. Give the people what they want, AMPTP.
