Presented in no particular order, and based mostly on our own opinions — as the Head Crabapples in Charge here — but also factoring in your reactions where we can. In situations where you loved something we hated — like Maggie Gyllenhaal — we always try to evaluate whether we think that person’s dress could genuinely beat any of the others in a vote, and in this situation we decided Maggie was NOT likely to take it over some of this incredibly stiff competition. And with Brie Larson, whose suit was hilariously crazy in a way many of us adored even despite its hideousness, I left her out because I think there are too many deserving ball gowns that could and should win it instead, because they made the effort to be on-point (but the pants on Janelle Monae work for me because she found a way to give them ball-gown flair by adding that gorgeous cape, so she’s in).

Okay, caveats out of the way. It’s not super scientific, so please try not to be enraged if your favorite was left off. Onto the poll.
