As we noted in Anna’s post earlier, the Met Gala was always a big enough deal, but Anna shepherded it into a global EVENT. We see the beginnings of that here, with the arrivals of Madonna, Gwyneth, Liv, Princess Di and Fergie (not together), Brandy and Monica — basically, Anna tapping into the zeitgeist as best she could. For a long time, before she relented and put Kim and Kanye on her cover, I think she liked to pretend she didn’t do that. But she clearly did.
