This clutch may haunt my nightmares, but it ALSO put Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” in my head, and that’s not a bad counterbalance.

'Can You Ever Forgive Me' NY Premiere

Melissa’s whole suit is nice, though (and the clutch is funny, but its eyes are just potentially their own horror movie). We’ve also got Jane Curtin, Richard E. Grant, Anna Deveare Smith, Dolly Wells — APPLAUSE for your citrus gown and blue shoes, Dolly —  and Stephen Spinella, a total Hey! It’s That Guy! Sigh. RIP, Fametracker.

Anyhoow, the movie, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, is about a biographer who loses her job and ends up profiting by selling forged letters from famous writers. The FBI sniffs around her forgeries, and I THINK at that point she starts stealing real ones? It’s based on a true story, and it sounds intriguing, AND apparently it was supposed to be a Julianne Moore vehicle at one point. I am pleased that the movie pivoted in McCarthy’s direction; I far prefer a project like this to some of the painfully broad caricature comedies she’s settled into lately, so hopefully I will drag my carcass to a movie theatre and give it a shot. Just… as soon as we’re clear on the Dodgers’ schedule. Priorities.
