Amsterdam is both a) the capital of The Netherlands, and b) the title of David O. Russell’s latest movie. This meant that the first time I Googled it, I got a lot of information that makes me want to travel, and not as much to inspire me to go to the movies. Perhaps a chunkier title would help. Knives Out is taken. How about Amsterdam: A Daggers In Mystery. Done. Solved.

Anyway, Agatha Christie’s Death on the Amsterdam Local Making All Stops Uptown is a period piece with a massive cast: Margot Robbie, Anya Taylor-Joy, Christian Bale, John David Washington, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Rami Malek, Robert DeNiro, Ed Begley Jr., Colleen Camp (!!), Matthias Schoenaerts and Alessandro Nivola as the detectives, and Taylor Swift as herself. Ah, I tease; her cameo is as someone called Liz Meekins, who I hope is meek, much as I hope Paul Canterbury is an archbishop, Harold Woodsman is a lumberjack, Beatrice Vandenheuvel lives on a small hill, Henry Norcross is angry a lot, and Valerie and Libby Voze are talkative and/or simply have big voices. We shall see. Sadly, not all of them came to the premiere.
