A huge part of the allure of Cannes for me is that it’s biggest, splashiest, truly international red carpet, where we see stars from other countries promoting their films (or themselves) and/or sitting on the jury right alongside the people Hollywood has anointed. Li Yuchun, also known professionally as Chris Lee, is a Chinese actress and singer who has made a big impression in the nine years since she started attending. It all underscores what a pity it is that the Met Gala is so… myopic. It took the theme being, essentially, China, to get both Fan Bingbing and Chris Lee there, which is bonkers, though Chris did attend again in 2019. Can that be the start of Anna throwing those doors open wider? Because she’s missing out on a lot of people who can deliver a real freaking MOMENT.
