Laverne is one of the voices in a star-studded Animal Farm directed by Andy Serkis, which I had no idea has been brewing for a while. She plays Snowball, co-leader of the rebellion along with Seth Rogen’s Napoleon. All of this is reminding me that I should read the book again, because it’s been umpteen years since I cracked it and I suspect it would hit differently now for myriad reasons. Laverne looks suitably dramatic in support of a character whose identity looms large even after they’ve been chased off. I enjoy its sculptural menace. Sometimes it looks like a ruined cobweb preserved in silver, sometimes it resembles strings of whatever metal the liquid Terminator is made from, and once, I glanced at it and thought I saw a dive-bombing bird. I’ve spent the last two days watching a WHOLE lot of weird playoff hockey fights, so I’m glad to pivot to the artistic fashion version thereof: fun to behold even if I don’t totally understand it.
