Instagram MVPs of 2020: Mindy Kaling

We’ve featured Mindy Kaling’s delightful Instagram fashion posts a few times now, from the first sighting to our realization that she was doing this regularly to the ones that we imagined as soap operas — all of which was before we learned Mindy was secretly pregnant the whole time, and possibly had pre-planned a bunch of Instagram content to cover the fact that she was due in September. Brilliant.

She’s kept up the content, too, which has been a very patterned bright spot as we slog through the remaining days of 2020. This ensemble is exceptional:

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are pitching a primetime reboot of All My Children, which I wholly support but only if they get La Lucci on board, and Mindy can appear on it occasionally as internationally acclaimed footwear designer Antonia Bridge.

She will get a BIG story, mostly because her shoes are always fantastic and they will look superb when she is forced to HURL them at her enemies.

This is Pine Valley’s hipster Influencer persona Perpetua Throttle, who does not understand proportions.

I am hardcore into those jammies, and wish I had leaned into buying ones specifically for the pre-Christmas euphoria.

Perky morning-show host Felicia Elan is wearing a sweater I covet very, very much.

Jackie Slick makes tiny accessories and sells them from her yacht in… I’m sure Pine Valley had a harbor. It had everything.

There is nothing soap-operatic about this. It’s just a comfy outfit and a cute sweater. I GUESS she could play Flora Divine, Pine Valley’s local purveyor of seasonal plants.

Retired soccer star Deidre Beckham — from the Pine Valley Chandlers team — has taken to making shoes out of athletic tape.

I don’t know WHAT is happening here, but it is horrific. I assume she is the evil twin of another character, who pushed said character down the Pine Valley well — made famous by Natalie and her sister Janet — and is now impersonating her sister and everyone with her odd new fashion choices. It’s like Big Business meets… All My Children, honestly.

This is fabulous. She’s playing a long-lost relative of Greenlee Smythe (real character name!), probably named Chartreuse Le Tweed, who thinks this is a hiking outfit simply because it includes some form of boot.

This is flat-out adorable.

As is this, which probably read very well on TV, where we weren’t fussing about whether we like the asymmetrical hem.

This caption made me laugh. We are all waiting with bated breath for any of us to get invited to a thing we can actually attend without fear of death, long-hauling, or super-spreading. Mindy is just a significant measure more sartorially prepared for that than I am.

LOOK AT THIS OUTFIT. And her purse, which is from a Spanish line called M2Malletier and appears to cost a good chunk of my mortgage.

That blouse is A Lot for me, but her accessories are EXCELLENT. I think even just a white t-shirt would have worked instead.

Another one for the soap! Hannah Twine makes accessories out of household objects and sells them for a 700 percent markup.

This made me smile. Of course, in soap land, it would mean she’s at the center of a love triangle with brothers who will be torn asunder by clashing loyalties, and they will have names like  Roc and Dash Mountain. But in regular life, it’s just a shirt with hearts, and it’s cute and it’s warming mine.
