The House of Gaultier has been rotating through creative directors — intentionally; they call them “Guest Couturiers,” and they include Simone Rocha, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, and Olivier Rousteing — and this is the work of a new one, Duran Lantink, an avant-garde Dutch designer. Apparently the influence for this was a combination of Marie Antoinette and the costumes Gaultier created for Régine Chopinot’s “Le Défilé” in 1985, but it might actually be peyote.
