Another weekend is upon us! I hope you have a fun one planned. Southern California is FINALLY about to cool off, THANK GOD. Just as a heads up, over the next week or two, we’re going to be switching over website hosts (and CMS!), so if you come by and things look janky or something seems weird — it will be (ideally) temporary. A round of applause for Tiffany and Heather, who’ve worked really hard on this project. (I have not been very helpful.) It’s also my Dad’s 80th birthday, and although he probably won’t read this: Happy birthday, Dad!!!!
At Drinks With Broads this week, we talked about baseball’s best known civilian fans and implored people not to be so weird about Nigella. And on Thursday: Heather saw You Can See Everything, and I bring you a TRULY INSANE jacket via, of course Reba McEntire.
Here at GFY, I rounded up a bunch of cute leopard-print items. You know it’s a neutral!!!! Our best-sellers this past week were (drum roll, please): the Quince jeans, which will ABSOLUTELY be the best-selling item of the year unless something insane happens; the EBY relief bra, which is still on sale in certain colors; and, finally, this cute suede tote. Finishing just outside the top three are BaubleBar’s glittery skeleton earrings, which are marked WAY DOWN. These sell out every year. (Their entire Halloween collection is cute. I kind of love these friendly little ghosts.)
The heists just keep on coming: 30,000 Bottles of Italian Red Wine Stolen in Brazen Tuscan Heist. That’s like FIVE MILLION DOLLARS worth of wine. That seems way easier to fence than a 330-pound bronze book cover.

Every word of this headline is amazing: John Oliver Bought Back Russell Crowe’s Jockstrap for the Third Time, and Yes, He Paid $10,000 to Do It
This is an excellent piece about the new East of Eden – it has some mild spoilers if you aren’t familiar with the source material. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but I’m glad it’s good.
This madras barn jacket is allegedly for men but I feel like it’s really kinda unisex, right?
This DOES seem like a mess: Sebastian Maniscalco and the Sirius comedy mess
Tyra is re-releasing Modelland, with MORE CONTENT??!? That book was VERY LONG in the first place.
I just got these boots and they are CUTE. They’re 30% off as of my typing this! Dolce Vita is also having a sale for the long weekend — I keep forgetting that some people have Monday off for Indigenous Peoples Day — and I love these boots, which also come in wide calf. (Given how much rain we’re supposed to get here in LA with the Super El Niño, I’m spending a lot of time looking at waterproof boots lately.) (In addition to wide calf boots, the folks at Dolce Vita also have extra wide calf sizes. This is a blessing! I used to have a pair of boots where I had to lay on the ground and raise my leg in the air to get it zipped, which is not ideal at my current age. If your calves are on the other side of the calf spectrum, they also have narrow calf boots. I’ve typed the word “calf” a LOT here.)
This does seem to follow: Improved air quality linked to better mental development in toddlers, study finds. Crazy thought: Maybe we should not pollute the shit out of everything!
Wow, don’t mind if I do: The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express Will Start Traveling From Paris to Monte Carlo Next Year

I laughed out loud at Anne Carson’s response to winning the Nobel Prize yesterday. Here’s all the winners so far! (Shout out to the time the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize went to someone in Fug Nation, Beatrice Fihn, who was at the time the executive director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. That was a thrill!!)
Oh, man – I love this rugby. (It also comes in a stripe, obviously.)
I was over at Elemis’s website the other day looking for something and noticed that they’ve got their advent calendar for sale already. I know it feels early to grab your advent calendar but it really isn’t, since they all sell so fast! I also noticed they have a really good gift with purchase right now — it’s got their night cream (15ml), a travel pack of the Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads (14-pack), the 30 ml Pro-Collagen Hydrating Cleansing Mousse, and travel-szie Pro-Collagen Fragrance Free Cleansing Balm, so make sure you add that to your shopping cart if you grab the calendar.
A great headline at the Guardian – and obviously this is important work: ‘They smell of urinal cakes!’: 100 unusual crisp flavours, ranked – from truly awful to totally scoffable. Some of these sound AWFUL, including some of the ones they claimed are delicious. Additionally: Every word of these rankings is powerfully British.
What an amazing life: Margaret Hamilton, computing pioneer who led software development for the Apollo program, dies at 90.
What a fun piece: 7 Fun Ways to Name Characters in Novels. Naming people is one of my favorite bits of writing. We named the protagonist in The Royal We “Rebecca” in large part just so we could make a “Posh and Bex” pun. (I mean, it was the right vibe otherwise but still.)
