Hope everyone has fun Halloween plans! It’s very warm in Los Angeles this week, and I was just telling my husband that I’m really happy for all the youths who have sexy costumes planned for their Friday night parties and bar crawls — no coats to mess up their looks. Go out and enjoy yourselves, people! A Friday Halloween is a blessing! (I told the young woman who works at my hair salon to have a great time this weekend, and she was like, “you should go out too!!” This is sweet but I have done my time bar crawling in a costume. And it was a blast! But now I need to stay home and watch the baseball.)
At Drinks With Broads this week, we dove into my BEST vintage cookbook and had Thoughts about national anthem performances. We also put together what I called a Bunch of Appetizers on Thursday — a ton of short bits covering everything from lentil recipes to an amazing magazine cover to why we’re all so tired right now.
And! Heather’s recap of the Only Murders in the Building finale! I don’t really think this season held together very well, but this show is always a pleasure to me.
Here at GFY, I rounded up our bestsellers from October. Lots of sweaters!
If you’re worried about people losing their SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown, please give to a local food bank if you are able — most of them would prefer money rather than actual goods. If you don’t have a local organization in mind, or you need services, Feeding America can help you find a local food bank. (In Los Angeles, I’ve given to the Hollywood Food Coalition and the Foothill Unity Center. The former also provides a pet food bank and accepts donations for that specifically.)
This was a fun read from the Museum Pros subreddit: People who work in collections/archives, what’s your weirdest find?
Intriguing: Jacob Elordi is unsingle-ish
Really interesting: Salem’s Unholy Bargain
A great interview with Mona May, the iconic costumer designer who did Clueless, and who has a book about that coming out.
I’m really liking these “thermoregulating” undies from ThirdLove. They’re VERY comfy, and I think they are sort of cooling? (They have bras, too. There’s a whole Thermoregulating Collection.) For my fellow perimeno- and menopausal friends.
A terrific profile of Jennifer Lawrence.
This is a big bummer: Days Before the Louvre Jewel Heist, the Oakland Museum Suffers Its Own Massive Art Theft. (Let’s not make robbing museums a trend!) Interestingly, unlike the Parisian robbery, a lot of these items could be sold without being immediately ID’ed — they are asking people to keep an eye out at antique shops, pawn shops, and flea markets.
This is a great excerpt from an upcoming book about the early days of MTV: “MTV Was a Lot Like Kabul:’ Tequila girls. Coke-dealing staffers. Office fires. In its ‘80s heyday, the network was a wild place with few rules.”
Billie Eilish is a real one. Saying “give your money away, shorties” to Mark Zuckerberg is amazing. (Apparently, he wasn’t amused. Cry on a pile of cash, Mark.)
I’m really tempted by these pants.

PS: We have a Ruti code, if you need some of my fave pants: DWB15 for 15% off.
Speaking of codes, we also have 20% off at Alice Lane Home with DWB20. This is only good through the end of the day today (Friday), though. (And I think their holiday collection is excluded.) I love their candle dish. I’m also honestly obsessed with this jar. I do not need more decorative objects but it’s so tempting! (Instagram keeps trying to sell me this lamp and it’s CORRECT that I want it, but even with 20% off, it’s $$$$$$$)
So interesting: How This Italian Town Came to Be Known as the ‘City of Witches’
Allison Williams continues to be the ONLY nepo baby actor who knows how to answer questions about it. Ahem: “I have so many different layers of privilege that it’s hard for me to put together the idea of a person it would be less fun to root for. I’m much more satisfying to root against. I really get it. I really, really get it. I always have cared about what people think about me, I still do, but I can’t begrudge people their reactions.” Perfect. Everyone else, take notes!
The NYT answers an important question: What’s the Best Way to Wear Barrel Pants?
I don’t know why this particular post on the figure skating subreddit made me laugh so hard. It’s especially funny without sound.
