Another week of summer done! How are you holding up?
At Drinks With Broads this week, I looked at the best-selling non-fiction of summer from the 1930s: Spoiler, there’s a fair amount of Hitler and also a bunch of exiled Russian royals. Meanwhile, Heather (and the commentariat!) get into The Odyssey! In Thursday’s edition, we get into this HFPA/Penske lawsuit, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Hadestown, and whether casting secrets ever pan out.
I also rounded up our July best-sellers. It’s a varied list this month! This week’s biggest sellers were this CUTE bomber jacket from the Nordstrom sale (as recommended by a Fug National!); this v. cute bralette from Harper Wilde; and this great Old Navy tank. (The Preen facial sunscreen JUST missed the top three. I’m also pleased by how many of you bought this Widow’s Bay tee, confirming my theory that there is a market for clever Widow’s Bay merch that’s currently being underserved.
Just loved this piece: A Tiny Tour #008: The National Arts Club. (I went to a fashion show there once in like…2008? Maybe? It is an amazing space.)

It’s too hot for jeans and yet I do have these jeans heading my way. (I wish I’d known they came in cropped!) I secretly love these striped ones, too.
I’m always reading the FIRE subreddit — although I am not FIRE at all — so this interview with a woman who did retire at 35 was very interesting! (This woman has a lot of rage in her answers, and I wonder if that struck her when she read it back. There are things she said that made me feel like she’s got some unexamined issues that are being expressed via her frugality, and then there are some things she said that felt very tapped in to her own psyche. It’s psychologically interesting!)

FWIW, I’ve been on oral minoxidil for a couple of years now and it’s absolutely stopped my hair loss — which was happening for a variety of issues — and grown a lot of my hair back. It’s been very effective.)
A good read (as always) at Ask a Manager: The unpaid invoices, the voodoo altar, and other things you found after an employee left.
Really interesting choices here from Zac Efron — sincerely, I don’t mean that sarcastically. I tend to think he’s underrated as an actor.
