I would not have thought of myself as a Lover of the Whimsical Sweatshirt and then I cleaned out my closet this weekend and I have SO many of them, from this cute lobster one I got a few weeks ago (I just noticed this is on big sale with the code FINAL60, also) to the vintage Les Miserables one I bought in a fugue state during the pandemic. (Unlike many things I bought in a futile attempt to feel something good in the year 2020, I actually do wear that sweatshirt often and it does bring me joy.) For me, I think this comes from, at its most basic, wanting to dress like someone in a Clare V. ad. (The sardines one is so cute.) But also…who doesn’t love a sweatshirt? And more graphic one at least feels like you can pretend you’re making an effort!
There are so many cute options out there beyond just plain sweatshirts — although if you’re in the market for those, these Old Navy ones look good. So do these from J.Crew, and they’re on sale. And I’m sure the Varley ones are great; I love my Varley shorts. Quince likewise feels like a reasonable place for this quest.
On the whimsy train, though, I also really recommend searching for vintage sweatshirts on Etsy/Ebay for whatever you’re into — sometimes you can find really cool stuff if you have time to dig. Like, say you love tennis. “Wimbledon sweatshirt” — and then, crucially, to get actual vintage, using the “vintage” filter — nabs you this sweet number. I cannot believe I haven’t bought this Diet Coke/1984 Olympics sweatshirt yet. There are a lot of Cats sweatshirts. I definitely thought about this Miss Saigon sweatshirt. This Phantom sweatshirt has a glow-in-the-dark logo!! Have I gone WAY off topic and am now just buying sweatshirts of 90s musicals? MAYBE!!!
