A few weeks ago, in our post about athletic wear, I noted that I love what my husband and I call “transitional pants,” i.e., bottoms that are not quite pajamas but also not as hard as jeans. As I said at the time, I guess the literal word for this is “loungewear,” but since I tend to put these items on after I get home for the day but before I go to bed, we just like to call them “transitional pants.” You can definitely wear transitional pants out of the house to walk the dog or get the mail or to run errands but I mostly wear them at home. They’re the pants version of taking off your bra when you walk in the door.
I currently have several pairs of transitional pants in the mix and a few that I’m eyeballing to add, like these cropped waffle knit ones from Negative. (I’ve mentioned this before but I love Negative’s undies. I wore their full coverage granny panties when recovering from ovarian surgery a couple of years ago [I’m fine, I had a HUGE dermal cyst] and they were SO GOOD for that; they did not bother my incision at all and they are SO soft. I recommend them to anyone having a similar procedure.) I was just recently influenced to buy these (currently on big sale) sweats by Christene Barberich’s newsletter, and they’re VERY comfy. (I thought I might be able to wear them out and about and I think I can, but they do get a little saggy and baggy, so maybe size up. They are also long, but they have an unfinished hem anyway, so I just chopped them to fit.) This is a similar pair at Lands’ End with narrower legs that come in A LOT of colors — and lengths — and are currently on big sale. Transitional pants time is also, naturally, track pants’ time to shine. And I was gifted a pair of the famous Rag & Bone terry cloth jeans — aka Fancy Pajama Jeans — and they are COMFY. They are also VERY VERY LONG, so I haven’t worn them out yet because I have to get them hemmed. (Rumor has it that they shrink in the dryer but these are too expensive for me to futz with them on my own.) Tall folks, make a note. They also now come with the track pants stripe, which is fun.
