The dress is beautiful, and so is the wearer. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is extremely physically perfect and I hope her parents high-five each other every ten minutes over how their DNA twined like a boss.
But while her face is a jewel, and the gown is delicate and cool and fits like a dream, I’m not sure the ingredients are making the ideal cake. Different makeup might’ve helped, and some creative jewelry on her arms — known ’round these here parts as “bracelets” — and frankly even maybe a dress that’s a deeper hue. But she does still look pretty… Maybe I am wrong not to open my heart to it. Maybe I’m being too closed off. Putting up walls. Afraid to feel. Or maybe the pattern is kind of reminiscent of an old bedspread my grandmother had in her guest bedroom. Maybe that bed was comfortable, so who cares. Maybe I’m confused. Maybe I’m amazed. Maybe far away. Call me, maybe?
